The Brighton College Sunshine Committee is dedicated to nurturing the wellbeing of our valued staff members. Committed to spreading kindness and to fostering a positive work environment, the Sunshine Committee orchestrates a range of initiatives aimed at bringing smiles to the faces of our hardworking teams and showing them that they are appreciated.
The Sunshine Committee prides itself on creating opportunities for staff to come together and make connections, be that through celebrations, social events or activities. Small treats and surprises are sprinkled through the week to recognise colleagues’ daily contributions of support the pupils, with the aim of reminding them that they are highly regarded members of our College community.

Jane Clewlow
Head of Senior School
QUALIFICATIONS: BA (Hons) English Literature, NPQH, coaching certification, Penta inspector trained
EXPERIENCE: 24 years of teaching, 21 years of Senior leadership across 4 different schools (London, Salford, Manchester and Dubai)
Chris Bland
Assistant Head of Senior School
QUALIFICATIONS: BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Development, PGCE Secondary Physical Education, NPQML.
EXPERIENCE: 19 years' teaching experience, 9 years in Senior Leadership, currently undertaking the NPQH qualification. Vast pastoral experience as Head of Year, Key Stage and Assistant Head – Pastoral. Qualified DSL (level 3). Experienced in leading CCA programmes and international trips. Volunteer charity worker within the UK.
Dr. Lene Janse Van Rensburg
Head of Wellbeing and School Counsellor
QUALIFICATIONS: B.EdPsych Educational Psychology. MDiac Play Therapy. PhD Psychology.
EXPERIENCE: 18 years’ experience in working within pastoral teams, private practice and clinics across the UK, Taiwan and South Africa.
Sadie Mercer
Pre-Prep Inclusion Lead
QUALIFICATIONS: BA (Hons) Education Studies with Psychology and Counselling, MSc Developmental Psychology.
EXPERIENCE: 12 years’ experience working within early years, Safeguarding, SENCO, Leadership, Local Authority inclusion. Experience working within inclusion across many different settings. Trauma informed practice, Attachment/child development training (UK), Mental health First Aid (Lighthouse Arabia).

EXPERIENCE: I have spent two years in a primary school in London and the last seven in the UAE teaching in Key Stage One.

EXPERIENCE: 16 years class teacher across all prep stages. Member of social committee in all prior schools. Leading pupil residential trips across a variety of year groups. Leading staff and pupils in various wellbeing events including one off day events as well as longer term events such as Mental Health Month.
